A man surrendered and was arrested just before midnight Wednesday after he had barricaded himself in a Westminster home for six hours, police say.
Mark Joseph Krieger, 34, was arrested for investigation of resisting arrest, menacing, obstruction and failure to leave a premise, according to a news release Thursday morning by Cheri Spottke, Westminster police spokeswoman.
Krieger has an extensive criminal record in which he has served multiple prison terms for drug and theft charges dating back to 2002.
Westminster police originally drove to a home in the 5700 block of 92nd Avenue to arrest Krieger on a felony menacing charge from last week.
As they arrived at the scene they spotted Krieger, easily identifiable with a bald head and tattoos encircling his neck, sitting on the front lawn of the home.
Seeing the officer, Krieger stood and walked inside the home. He did not surrender after police tried numerous times to contact him.
Two other people, who were inside the home, left the home and told officers the suspect was inside and had possibly barricaded himself.
Because of Krieger’s prior criminal history, the SWAT team was called in to arrest Krieger.
During the incident a “CodeRed” notification was sent to several neighbors and six homes were evacuated.
Police negotiators attempted to contact with the suspect. SWAT members arrested him just before midnight, Spottke said.
Neighbors were later allowed to return to their homes.
