Fans of the Walnut Room on South Broadway in the hip Baker neighborhood have less than two weeks to enjoy the place before it closes Aug. 28.

The lease is up, and owner John Burr decided not to renew.

“It’s overwhelming,” Burr said. “I’ve never closed down a business before. There are a lot of details.”

“There was a slight (rent) increase, but we are just looking to focus on the Walnut Street location,” he said. “We’ve been happy here, and we’ll miss that location, for sure. But there’s been  … and we figured we’d just consolidate and focus on that.”

He opened the original Walnut Room in 2005, before RiNo was called RiNo, and there was little sign that it would become a thriving arts district.

The Walnut Room on Broadway has modified its hours, and now opens at 4 p.m.
