Lakewood police are investigating after a woman reported she was carjacked, and that the thieves fired a shot fired early Wednesday morning.
The woman first told police “they had taken her car and fired a round off,” said Steve Davis, police spokesman.
Police later found that the woman had met with the carjackers “to do some drugs or a drug deal,” Davis said.
“They decided they needed her car more than she did,” he said, and then threw her out of the car and fired a round into the air.
She was taken to a hospital to be treated for some scrapes, possibly caused by falling to the pavement.
Police found the vehicle abandoned at West 5th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, a few blocks from where the car was stolen at about 5:30 a.m.
