A truck with a boat trailer in tow was backing into the water at Cherry Creek Reservoir on Sunday when it slipped on algae and slid into the water. Emergency workers pulled the truck from the lake at about 3:30, about five hours later.
No one was injured in the accident, according to South Metro Fire Rescue, which removed the vehicle from the lake.
The truck went into the water at about 10:15 a.m., said Eric Hurst, South Metro spokesman.
Hurst originally said the trailer had a boat on board when it went into the water.
“A gentleman was backing his truck and a boat into the west boat ramp when it slipped on algae and he was unable to stop it.”
The man and his granddaughter escaped without injury, Hurst said.
South Metro, which was called to the scene about two hours after the accident, later found out that the boat was not on the trailer, when it slipped into the lake while backing up to bring the craft to shore, Hurst said.
A tow truck was unable to free the truck, which was “stuck in mud and whatever else is on the floor of the lake,” Hurst said.
South Metro Fire Rescue divers put air bags under the vehicle to make it more buoyant, Hurst said.
An attempt to pull it from the water failed, and at 2:30 p.m., divers were back in the water placing another air bag and attaching a cable connected to a tow truck to pull the truck out.
First attempt at pulling the truck out was unsuccessful. Taking another airbag under and reattaching a tow cable.
