A driver fleeing a hit-and-run crash and attempting to elude police crashed again, into an Aurora day care center, injuring two children and a woman, police said.
The incident started Wednesday afternoon in the area of East Yale Avenue and South Parker Road with a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash, Aurora police said.
A blue Dodge Dart fled north on South Parker Road. An Aurora patrol officer spotted the vehicle, which had front-end damage, going north on South Havana Street near East Idaho Place.
The officer turned on lights and sirens, but the driver kept going, police said. The driver of the fleeing vehicle, with Ohio plates, turned into the Havana Gardens shopping center and kept driving in a reckless manner.
The Dodge then blasted out of the shopping center, crossing all lanes of South Havana Street, and into a grocery store parking lot, where it hit a parked vehicle.
The Dodge then slammed into Bright Stars Child Care, 1155 S. Havana St., Unit 25, where the driver, who is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs, was taken into custody.
The day care employee and two children suffered “minor” injuries and were taken to a hospital, police said.
An investigation is ongoing. The driver, who was not identified, faces multiple possible charges, including hit and run, vehicular eluding, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.
