As a nation of immigrants, America should be appalled at the scorched-earth approach Donald Trump intends to take with the forced deportation of millions of people who are here without documentation. Whatever their circumstances, many of these people (and many of them are children) are refugees from war-torn countries to whom the U.S. regularly sells military weapons that serve only to increase the instability of poorer nations and make surviving in their homeland impossible.
I suggest the next president needs to look at the role that the U.S. plays in the proliferation and sales of military weapons to Third World countries that gravely exacerbate the violence, extremism and poverty that refugees are fleeing when they come to the U.S. seeking a better and ultimately survivable life.
