A man was killed late Friday in a drive-by shooting in Pueblo County that happened in a parking lot just south of the grounds for the Colorado State Fair.

Authorities say Colorado State Fair police were called about 11:55 p.m. to the scene near the intersection of Mesa Avenue and Gaylord Street where they and county sheriff’s deputies found the man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was on the ground near two parked cars.

The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was pronounced dead. The county sheriff’s office said his name would be released at a later time.

“Witnesses told detectives they heard several gunshots and saw at least two vehicles leave the area eastbound on Mesa Avenue,” the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release early Saturday. “Investigators are looking for a black Honda car and an unknown make, small white truck.”

Investigators say no suspects in the slaying have been identified and that detectives are trying to determine if the shooting was gang related.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office at 719-583-6250 or Crime Stoppers at 719-542-7867.
