Weld County officials announced Thursday they’ve sent about $2 million to 17 school districts from fracking on federal land.

The money is a portion of the $7.3 million Weld County collected from the federal government for oil and gas operations on the Pawnee Grasslands, in northeastern Weld County.
“This is another great example of the benefits oil and gas can have for the Weld County community,” County Commissioner Mike Freeman said in a news release. “Our students will benefit directly from this money.”
