Cybersecurity’s Webroot acquires San Diego data-science security firm

Noted: Cybersecurity firm Webroot has acquired , a San Diego firm that uses data science to detect malicious software.

Terms were not disclosed, but CyberFlow’s staff will join Webroot’s San Diego office, which now employs 58 people.

CyberFlow’s software, called FlowScape, will help Webroot secure the growing number of Internet-of-Things devices — ordinary products like thermostats, door locks and sprinkler systems that have an internet connection. With new products being linked to a home’s internet, security experts have warned about the threat of hackers gaining control of a home’s devices. Flowscape can provide an early warning system, the company said.

According to a , Cyberflow was founded in 2012. In August, it employed 20 people and had raised $4.2 million in venture capital.

Webroot employs 572  people worldwide.
