PARKER — After Rock Canyon claimed the first two sets of its Continental League battle with Chaparral on Thursday night, the Wolverines stormed back to take the third set and the momentum of the match decidedly shifted in the home team’s favor.
The fourth set, in its early stages, was going Chaparral’s way, too. At one point, Rock Canyon star outside hitter Keeley Davis was blocked at the net, and the Chaparral home crowd cheered, jeered and chanted “overrated” at the top terminator in the state.
But for every block the Wolverines managed, Davis had a handful of thunderous spikes to match, and Davis kept the booms coming through the decisive fourth set and all the way to a 3-1 victory for the Jaguars.
With the win, Rock Canyon improves to 14-1 (7-0 in league play) and has four remaining league matches, including gut-testing showdowns against Mountain Vista and Highlands Ranch (the lone team to beat RCHS this fall) to close out the regular season. Chaparral falls to 9-5 (5-1) and plays at Rampart on Saturday.
