Aurora teen pleads guilty in death of his 10-year-old brother

Family members initially told police they thought the boy had accidentally shot himself

A to a charge of negligent child abuse causing death in the , authorities say.

Jalecc Taylor, 18, entered the guilty plea Monday in Adams County juvenile court in the June 4 death of his brother, Jaliel “Anthony” Hemmings, according to Sue Lindsay, spokeswoman for Dave Young, Adams County district attorney.

Taylor also pleaded guilty to a charge of being a juvenile in possession of a handgun.

Aurora police were called about 9:45 p.m. June 4 to the Nordic Arms apartments at 1575 Galena St.

Family members initially said they believed the boy died from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. They believed he found the gun, wrapped in cloth and sitting on top of a shelf.

Taylor, who was 17 at the time, was later charged with the crime.

Taylor’s sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16.
