A suspected gunman in a fatal shooting in Aurora was later fatally shot in a shootout with Denver and Aurora police officers.
An Aurora police officer was injured during the incident. His injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
The incident started about 11:21 a.m. when Aurora police responded to a report of a shooting at 142 Del Mar Circle in Aurora, said Aurora police spokesman Chris Amsler.
Some type of argument preceded the shooting that killed one person.
Aurora police received information that the shooting suspect fled to 14572 E. 46th Ave., Denver.
Aurora notified Denver police that Aurora officers were responding to the Denver address and Denver officers also responded, said Denver police spokesman John White.
When the suspect exited the home, shots were fired. An Aurora officer was injured and the suspect was shot by a police officer, White said.
Police did not initially release the suspect’s condition out of respect for his family, White said.
At 4:20 p.m. Denver police announced on Twitter that the suspect had died at the scene.
Police investigations into both shootings are ongoing.
In Denver investigators have set up a white tent in the driveway of the home and are collecting and processing evidence. At least five shell casings could be seen lying in the street near the corner of Durham Court and 46th Avenue.
Additional details will be released as they become available.
