A lockout at Niwot High School in Boulder County prompted by a rumor of a student with a gun has been lifted on Tuesday morning after authorities deemed the threat not credible.
“There was a rumor that a student might bring a gun or did bring a gun to school,” said Carrie Haverfield, spokeswoman for the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Haverfield said a lockdown was initiated by the school’s resource office so that authorities could search the campus about 10 a.m. By 10:15 a.m., the lockdown had been downgraded to a lockout, and by 10:30 a.m. the campus has resumed normal operations.

Division Chief Heidi Prentup, of the sheriff’s office, said that the search was out of an abundance of caution.
A spokesman for the St. Vrain School District did not immediately answer Denver Post inquiries on the details of what prompted the lockdown. He said updates would be posted on Niwot High School’s website.
