Re: Nov. 14 letters to the editor.

Letter-writer June H. Twinam did not vote for President-elect Trump and has expressed her displeasure through protest. She informs us our country was “built” on dissent. And if President Trump wants her support he must earn it.

Our country was conceived, in part, on grievances against a tyrannical king. It was built on the ingenuity and hard work of our people. The art of liberty requires us to be participatory citizens. What our exceptional republic offers is opportunity. Gaining it requires each of us to strongly defend our positions and the right of each of us to speak out.

This election is over. Protesting won’t change the result, but pursuing what you believe in might.
