Re: “,” Dec. 2 news story.
Donald Trump’s spokespersons, as well as Gov. Mike Pence, insist that Trump’s Taiwan phone call was “long planned.” If so, why did they neglect to inform the State Department that President-elect Trump was about to make the biggest change in U.S. and China relations since 1979? In failing to advise the United States diplomatic service about his plan, he left them in the dark and put them at a great disadvantage when they interact with their Chinese counterparts.
Either Trump was blissfully unaware of the One China policy put into place by President Nixon in 1972, or Trump was aware but he failed to grasp his responsibility to contact the appropriate persons in our diplomatic corps so they could more effectively deal with the Chinese government. This is a clear demonstration of the feckless manner with which Trump handles foreign relations, and it clearly shows it’s amateur hour in Trump Tower.
