
To make that happen, she ran four marathons in 2015 — the Boston Marathon in April, Colfax in May, Revel the Rockies in July and Loveland Marathon in September. In 2016, she ran another four.
“Now my new goal is to run at least 75 before I turn 70,” she said. “My husband thinks I can do 100, but he doesn’t have to run them.”
Few things keep West away from the trails she runs five to six days a week. On weekdays, she runs between eight to 12 miles, then caps the week with a 20 to 28-mile run.
When she competed in the Boston Marathon in 2013, she ran with a pelvis stress fracture that slowed her down. In the end, that injury potentially saved her life because it kept her away from the bombs that killed three people and injured more than 200.
“They stopped us on the race course when I was almost to the finish line and told us about the bombs,” she said. “I didn’t get to cross. I was a quarter-mile away. I consider that injury a blessing in disguise.”
