Boulder County deputies initiated a dragnet involving dozens of officers and K-9s Monday night to capture two suspects after they allegedly fled from a traffic stop and crashed a stolen car.

Kaylob Lee Marrs, 21, and David Gerardo Fuentes-Fuentes, 19, both of Boulder, were arrested at 11:20 p.m. hiding in a vestibule of a town home in the 1000 block of Laramie Boulevard, according to a news release by Mike Wagner, spokesman for the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department.

Criminal charges are pending against the two suspects, Wagner’s news release says.

A deputy attempted to stop a green 1997 Honda Accord for speeding near 28th and Violet streets in North Boulder at around 8:20 p.m., the news release says. At first the car slowed down while going north on 28th after the deputy activated his emergency lights.

But the Honda quickly accelerated. The deputy did not pursue the car, which crashed into a post in the center median just north of Broadway, the news release says. The suspects ran northwest across a field, leaving behind the car that was stolen Jan. 15 in Aurora.

A total of 35 deputies including 22 members of the sheriff’s SWAT team set up a perimeter. They used thermal imaging cameras and notified residents of the Dakota Ridge neighborhood about the suspects.
