No. 3 Rock Canyon used a dominant second half to pull away to a 60-45 victory over visiting Chaparral on Friday night in Continental League action.

Junior guards Sam Masten and Tyson Gilbert both the led way for Rock Canyon with 17 points apiece, while sophomore center Bryce Matthews paced the Wolverines with 15 points.

Chaparral, which doesn’t start a single senior, hung tough with the Jaguars before Rock Canyon’s 20-point third quarter effectively put the game out of reach.

The Wolverines continued to battle via a full-court press and a number of key three-pointers from sophomore guard Joseph Dalton, but Rock Canyon’s consistent play never let the visitors get too close on a nigh where the Jaguars’ student section, the ‘Canyon Crazies’, were out in full force.

Rock Canyon improves to 17-2 and 6-0 in league, while Chaparral falls to 11-8, 4-2. The Jaguars are in action next on Feb. 7 vs. Legend, while the Wolverines host No. 1 ThunderRidge that same night.

SCORE BY QUARTER

Chaparral 8 8 12 17

Rock Canyon 11 15 20 14
