Riding a six-game winning streak heading into Wednesday’s Jeffco League showdown against Green Mountain, Class 4A No. 6 Evergreen (15-4, 8-2) is looking as capable as any team in the field to make a deep postseason run.
Coach Scott Haebe’s Cougars are paced by senior captain Michael Dillon (15.6 points per game), brother to the star of the No. 2 Lady Cougars, sophomore Claudia Dillon. Complimenting Dillon is junior forward Bridger Tenney (12.0) and junior guard Chase Rogers (10.1) in addition to an array of reliable players off the bench.
Recent notable wins include triumphs over Golden (60-53 on Jan. 20) and No. 5 D’Evelyn (57-46 on Jan. 27) and as the Cougars approach the homestretch of league play, Haebe’s squad believes it can build off last season’s second-round playoff exit that capped an 18-7 campaign.
Denver Post preps editor Kyle Newman caught up with Haebe to get a synopsis of the Cougars’ success so far, the play of Dillon, room for improvement down the stretch of the regular season and much more:
