With record-breaking temperatures and wind gusts as high as 60 mph expected Tuesday, the Front Range, foothills and mountains are under a red-flag warning until 6 p.m. Tuesday. No precipitation is in the forecast until Wednesday night.
The high temperature is expected to reach 74 degrees, which would break a record of 71 degrees set in 1995, said Jim Kalina, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Steady winds out of the west are expected to be between 20 and 30 mph, and gusts could reach 60 mph in the foothills.
Forecasters predict sunny skies with a high near 65 Wednesday. There’s a 20 percent chance for rain or snow after 11 p.m. Wednesday, but the chance for moisture improves throughout the day Thursday, the weather service said. By Thursday night, there is a 70 percent chance for snow with a low expected to drop to around 19 decrease.
The chance for snow decreases again on Friday, but skies will remain mostly cloudy, the NWS forecast says. The high isn’t expected to climb above the mid-30s on Friday.
Temperatures will gradually rise over the weekend and on Monday. The high on Saturday is expected to reach about 38 degrees, while the high on Monday should be near 51 degrees.
