A man wearing body armor who allegedly fired at Commerce City police officers has been charged with multiple felonies.

Isaac Lesperance-Torres, 44, has been charged with three counts of attempting to commit first-degree murder against a peace officer and two counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

Lesperance-Torres, who was wanted on two felony warrants, allegedly  Feb. 21 after they found him hiding under a warehouse staircase in the 7200 block of East 47th Avenue in Denver. Commerce City officers had pursued Lesperance-Torres from a nearby adult business, on the 4800 block of Pontiac Street, to the spot where he was found, police said.

During an attempt to have the wanted man surrender, shots were fired by officers and the armed suspect, police said. Lesperance-Torres was hit in the leg. He was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

He is being held at the Denver jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. He has a court hearing scheduled for Thursday and a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 22.
