A total of 149 separate outages scattered across the Denver metro area have been reported, according to an Xcel Energy report.

Icing and high winds have damaged poles, triggering electrical outages, said Mark Stutz, Xcel spokesman. Circuits shorted out at some power poles, igniting a few pole fires, Stutz said.

On Friday, crews normally assigned to construction have been shifted to emergency duties, Stutz said. He said 50 crews are out restoring electricity.

“There haven’t been a great number of sustained outages,” Stutz said.

The number of homes and businesses with no electricity Friday climbed to 9,100 around 6:30 a.m., Stutz said.
