An early spring storm dropped as much as 16 inches of snow in the mountains and up to an inch of water in the Denver area has moved south and east of the metro area and is beginning to enter Kansas, forecasters say.

“We got the dirt wet,” NWS meteorologist Kyle Fredin said just before 9 a.m. Friday.

He said some parts of the Denver metro area got between three-fourths to an 1 inch of moisture even though there was no snow accumulation. Northern Colorado received much less moisture. Fort Collins received between one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch of rain.

“It just wasn’t quite cold enough to bring snow to the urban corridor,” Fredin said. Temperatures remained at least 5 degrees above freezing, he said.

Early Friday morning snow was blowing sideways in parts of Arapahoe, Douglas and El Paso counties. Howling winds are gusting up to 48 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Sunshine is the forecast for Saturday. The high temperature will rise to about 62 degrees.

The Denver metro area could get rain at night. There is a 30 percent chance of rain after midnight.
