Junior first baseman Sean Arnold delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh on Thursday afternoon in the home opener at Falcon Field, giving Highlands Ranch a 5-4 win over Lakewood.
The No. 6 Falcons (5-2) fell behind early, as the Tigers (4-3) used a throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the second before sophomore shortstop Simon Baumgardt’s three-run dinger made it a 4-0 ballgame in the third.
But Highlands Ranch began to chip away, and by the time senior shortstop Morgan McIntosh’s solo homer tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons had regained all the momentum.
Junior Matt Blackwood went the distance for Highlands Ranch to earn his first victory of the season. Lakewood senior Jeff Reed, who was pegged with the loss, also pitched well in 6 1/3 innings.
