FORT COLLINS — They will not hide their feelings. They won’t get in the way, either.
For an older brother who wants the best for his sibling, those can be tough emotions to swallow. It is for Jake Schlager and Toby McBride, Colorado State players currently watching younger brothers comb over offers, including invitations from the Rams’ coaching staff.
“I would be lying if I told him I didn’t want him to come here,” said Jake, a starting safety for the Rams heading into his senior year. “I’ve been hounding on him ever since I knew he had a chance to come here. I’ve seen his ability, I watch and listen to all his games; I always have. Seeing my little brother Joe go up to South Dakota and keeping up with him, now seeing Zach … It would be awesome to see him come here, and I’m going to push for that, most definitely.
“I’m here for him, I’m not going to pressure him. It’s his future, his college career and he needs to make that decision on his own.”
Zach picked up his offer from the Rams recently, while Trey McBride was offered by the Rams the day his brother signed to play at CSU out of Fort Morgan.
It was a special day for all involved.
