Re: April 28 letter to the editor.

Letter-writer Robert Williams informs Denver Police Chief Robert White that illegal immigrants have committed a crime, implying that White should arrest them all.

Police have practiced a long and honorable tradition of using judgment in enforcement because of the impracticality of arresting every “criminal” (tickets for 1 mph over the limit?) or because some laws are misguided or even wrong.

Williams should instead direct his energy toward urging Congress to reform our immigration laws so as to recognize the tremendous pressures that fuel immigration and the real contributions made by immigrants to our society and economy.
