Sometimes the urge to go fishin’ takes over, but the ability to get out of the metro area and up to some to fast-moving mountain streams or secluded plains streams might not always be feasible. Luckily, there are dozens of small ponds, preserves and reservoirs dotted all around Adams County where people can find a little urban solitude next to calm waters with their fishing poles. Here are some of the best places to do a little catch and release fishing this summer.
Barr Lake State Park
Address: 13401 Picadilly Road, Brighton
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: Channel catfish, smallmouth and largemouth bass, rainbow trout, walleye, bluegill, wiper and tiger muskie are among the species Colorado Parks and Wildlife聽has stocked at Barr Lake.聽 Rainbow trout were stocked in the lake in March, April and May. Fishing is allowed from the shore or from a boat on the north side of the lake. No fishing is allowed in the wildlife refuge and on the Barr Lake dam.
Webster Lake聽at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park
Address: 11701 Community Center Drive, Northglenn
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: You can find a variety of fish including bream, bluegill, perch, rainbow trout, crappie, catfish, largemouth bass and redear sunfish here in the heart of Northglenn. Whether you鈥檙e bait-casting, spinning or fly fishing your chances of getting a bite here are good. So grab your favorite fly fishing rod and reel, and head out to Webster Lake.
Jim Baker Reservoir
础诲诲谤别蝉蝉:听West 61st Avenue between Lowell Boulevard and Tennyson Street in unincorporated Adams County.
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: Just south of Westminster this 53-acre reservoir is loaded with rainbow trout, catfish, smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill and several other species.聽The reservoir is bordered by the walking trail, along with a rocky shoreline and wetlands.
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge
Address: 6550 Gateway Road, Commerce City
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: Public fishing is offered as a recreational fee-based program. The 2017 fishing season opens Saturday, April 15 and closes Oct. 8. Fishing is allowed at Lakes Mary and Ladora on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays only. A daily fee of $3 per adult, age 16 and older is required. Along with the refuge permit you must have a state fishing license.
Adams County Fairground Lakes
础诲诲谤别蝉蝉:听9755 Henderson Road, Brighton
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: Former gravel mining operations all along west Brighton and Henderson are fishable spots with great聽access to the South Platte River. Black bullhead, black crappie and bluegill can be found in the area. The聽Adams County Fairground Lakes are located one mile west of Colorado 85 on 124th Avenue.
Carpenter Park Lake
Address: 3498 E 112th Ave., Thornton
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: Easy to access and full of amenities for the whole family. Carpenter Park Lake is open to the public daily, year round from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and paddle boats are available to rent.
Ken Mitchell Lake
Address: 889 Kinglet Court, Brighton
鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌妇别蝉肠谤颈辫迟颈辞苍: Recently re-opened and restocked, shelters at this location operate at a first-come first-serve basis.聽Fishing is allowed from pier only. No climbing over fences or under gates to fish from the shore. Boats are not allowed on the lake.聽Fishing licenses are required per Division of Wildlilfe regulations.
