Investigation into crash of Arapahoe deputy, state patrol trooper could take weeks

The crash sent both drivers to area hospitals

It could take weeks before investigators determine the cause of a head-on collision between an Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy and a Colorado State Patrol trooper  when both officers were responding to a report of a road rage incident, Aurora police said Thursday.

The crash Saturday evening near Manila Road and 48th Avenue near Watkins sent both drivers to area hospitals.

The collision was within Aurora city limits and Aurora police are investigating. The preliminary investigation suggests that both vehicles were straddling the center of the dirt road, said Aurora Officer Bill Hummel.

Investigators will analyze data collected by event data recorders in each vehicle, which is standard practice, Hummel said.
