The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t made any arrests in a felony criminal mischief case that killed five cows in mid-July.
two Mesa County residents reported someone shot five of their cows, valued at nearly $8,000. The cows later died July 15 on Grand Mesa.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office case report says the cows were wounded with a small-caliber rifle. One cow was shot in the head and another in the abdomen. The veterinarian told investigators that while he was unable to retrieve bullets, the injuries and evidence indicates that all five cows were shot, the Sentinel reports.
A Grand Junction man who was camping told a sheriff’s deputy he saw a herd of cows run into a clearing where three of them fell over and died within minutes of each other, the Sentinel reports.
