Senate Bill 19-225 attempts to lift a statewide prohibition against local governments implementing rent-control policies as frustrated renters expect more from lawmakers.

Re: Aug. 11 editorial.

The Denver Post is wise and compassionate in supporting a new way to provide housing relief to the  city’s less fortunate citizens. Last week my wife and I visited Confluence Park. From a spot near there we could count eight derricks and cranes reaching to the heavens. Existing high-rise buildings blocked our view of others at work.

They are erecting new buildings for working and living spaces. Not all of the new office workers will be able to afford the new apartments and condominiums.

Denver’s new housing program saves money for the city by keeping the neediest out of jail, ERs, and detox centers. The new escrow plan will help some of our working citizens accumulate the down payment for the new American dream: an affordable family home.
