In response to a local radio host reporting that the Broncos were seeking a quarterback trade, team president John Elway tweeted last week, “Rumor of us being interested in anyone other than the QBs we have is another example of irresponsible, fake news!!”Re: Aug. 10 letter to the editor.
Letter-writer James Churches laments the use of tweets by John Elway, claiming that “Our president has done enough to discredit the journalism profession in our country without our football hero piling on.”
Churches apparently does not understand that the “journalism profession” no longer has the respect of a large segment of the American people, who now get a great deal of opinion disguised as news from the formerly esteemed “Fourth Estate.” That may not be “fake news” by definition, but it is dishonest, disappointing and shameful.
