People curious about experiencing a ride in a driverless vehicle can do so Wednesday, when the Regional Transportation District and longtime operating partner Transdev show off a driver-free shuttle at the Pepsi Center.
The rides will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Prius North parking lot at 1000 Chopper Circle.
The public will be able to hop aboard the autonomous electric shuttle — a French-made EZ10 — which accommodates a dozen people, six seated and six standing. It has no steering wheel and no dedicated front or back.
But don’t expect a fast ride — the EZ10 will be cruising at a speed of 12 mph. The shuttle relies on sensors, object detection technology and a standalone collision-avoidance feature to avoid slamming into trees, lamp posts and other vehicles.
RTD said in a release that the agency doesn’t have plans currently to buy the autonomous vehicles.
