An Adams County judge sentenced a Thornton  to 10 days in jail, plus two years of probation.

Judge Byron Howell also ordered Ana Marie Faragoza, 61, who was driving on Federal Boulevard when she had a medical emergency related to diabetes, also was ordered to stop driving as a condition of her probation.

Faragoza was driving her Jeep Liberty when she ran over Joren Edward Coates, who was standing in the median with his bike at 112th Avenue in Westminster. The Jeep then crossed the raised concrete median before crashing into a light pole.

At Friday’s sentencing hearing, prosecutors told the judge that Faragoza continued to drive even though she knew she was suffering a diabetic crisis, according to a 17th Judicial District news release. She also sideswiped another vehicle whose occupants tried to get her to pull over. Faragoza continued to drive despite calling her daughter, who told her to pull over, the release said.

Faragoza also must serve 200 hours of community service and undergo a full evaluation of her medical condition and fitness to safely operate a vehicle.
