U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, R-Windsor, visited Guatemala last week on behalf of the U.S. House of Representatives to learn about the Central American nation’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and criminal activity that often affects the United States.
According to a news release from Buck’s office, he visited the country’s naval and air force facilities, which play roles in cutting off the flow of drugs from South America to the U.S. and in securing the region.
Buck also met with Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and several other government ministers to discuss federal policies and how they can affect Guatemala’s efforts to contribute to a more stable and peaceful North American continent.
“I’m encouraged by Guatemala’s efforts to promote security and combat drug trafficking in North America, and I’m hopeful that the federal government can craft policy in a way that makes it easier for our two nations to cooperate on these shared goals,” Buck said in the release.
