The future of the R-Line in Aurora is on the docket Thursday night, as officials from the city and Regional Transportation District will hold a public meeting on RTD’s .

The 6 p.m. public meeting at the Aurora Municipal Center comes a little less than a month before the RTD board is expected to vote to reduce R-Line service between Florida Station in Aurora and Lincoln Station in Lone Tree.

The agency is proposing an end to weekday off-peak R-Line service south of the Florida Station and eliminating all weekend service on that stretch.

Such cutbacks are “completely unacceptable,” Mayor Steve Hogan said  to the RTD Board of Directors.

RTD officials have said the cuts, which if approved at the Oct. 17 meeting would take effect next year, are necessary because the R-Line’s average weekday ridership is a fraction of the trips taken on the transit districtap other light rail lines.

Aurora residents would still be able to travel south of the Florida Station any time of the week, but it will require making transfers to other light-rail lines, RTD spokesman Nate Currey told The Post last week.
