It’s warming up in the Denver metro area Wednesday with highs breaking into the 70s — more than 10 degrees higher than on Tuesday, forecasters say.

Enjoy it while you can because by late Sunday night and early Monday morning, snowflakes could fly in the Denver metro area, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

But on Wednesday, the clouds will part and the sun will come out, pushing the high temperature to around 71 degrees.

It will be much hotter in Phoenix, where the Colorado Rockies will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a winner-take-all Wildcard game. The high temperature will reach around 98 degrees in Phoenix.

By the time the first pitch is thrown at Chase Field in Phoenix at 6:08 p.m. Rockies’ time, Denver will have cloudy skies and a chance for showers and thunderstorms. There’s a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. and into the evening before 9 p.m. Winds out of the southeast will gust up to 21 mph, the weather service says.

The chance for rain increases to around 40 percent on Thursday and Friday, with highs in the 60s.

Sunshine is expected most of the weekend, with highs of around 75 degrees on Saturday and 68 on Sunday.

There’s a slight chance of rain and snow showers early on Monday. The high temperature will be around 47 degrees Monday.
