One driver was killed in a head-on crash in Commerce City on Friday night, and the other driver suffered serious injuries.

The crash happened about 7:50 p.m. in the 10800 block of U.S. 85, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told investigators a vehicle was northbound on the highway running without headlights and it crossed into southbound lanes, striking a vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the southbound vehicle died at the scene, and a passenger was taken to a hospital.

Investigators suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash. Commerce City police are investigating.

The highway was shut down from East 104th Avenue to East 112th Avenue in both directions.
