Weld County prosecutors have charged a former caregiver at the Ashley Manor assisted living facility in Evans with with five counts of at-risk neglect after the 27-year-old woman allegedly abandoned dementia patients who went six hours without food or medications.

Briana Mashek could be sentenced to up to 7½ years in the Weld County Jail if she is convicted of all charges against her, according to a news release Thursday by Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke.

The patients, ranging in age from 74 to 93, were not able to go to the bathroom because and were not repositioned in the beds, the news release says.

It wasn’t until a night-shift worker arrived that the patients received care, court records indicate.

Mashek later told police that she decided to leave the home because she was not getting along with her boss, court records indicate. She also admitted that she did not call her boss or her supervisor to inform them that she was leaving.
