A northern front headed to Denver will turn rain to slush and then to snow Thursday afternoon.

The record-setting heat of Wednesday, in which temperatures rose to 83 degrees, will all but be forgotten by the afternoon when brisk frigid winds arrive out of the northeast, according to National Weather Service in Boulder.

The warmest temperature Thursday will only be a few degrees higher than the overnight low of 53 degrees, according to forecasters.

Rain showers are expected before 1 p.m., then a rain and snow mix will fall for an hour before it turns to all snow. No more than a half-inch of snow accumulation is expected in the Denver metro area. Wind gusts could reach 33 mph, the NWS says.

Between 2 to 5 inches of snow could fall in the foothills.

The snow will diminish in the evening and the skies will clear. Temperatures will plummet to around 20 degrees overnight.

It will be sunny Friday with a high of around 42 degrees. It will continue to warm up on the weekend with temperatures rising to about 55 degrees on Saturday and 68 on Sunday.

There’s slight chance for snow on Monday, when temperatures will rise to about 44 degrees.

It will be partly sunny Tuesday for Halloween with a high of about 46 degrees.
