As one of the biggest cities in Colorado, Fort Collins may be the Chicago to Denver’s New York City.

But in the scheme of the country, it’s still very much a small town, one where any celebrity appearance will make waves.

Case in point: Fort Collins’ newspaper the Coloradoan has been hot on the trail of actress Katherine Heigl (“Knocked Up,” “27 Dresses,” hysterically crying on “Grey’s Anatomy”), who’s been spotted in the city multiple times in recent months.

What was Heigl doing in town? Shooting a film? Perhaps “28 Dresses”?

Today, Coloradoan culture reporter Erin Udell dug up the answer: Heigl’s dog needed brain surgery, a representative from Heigl’s confirmed, and elected to have it performed in Fort Collins, which is ostensibly home to a canine brain surgeon worth the trip.
