Three story lines

1. Championship watch. Boise State clinches a Mountain division title with a victory Saturday, but if Fresno State upends Wyoming earlier in the afternoon, the Broncos will have won it even before kickoff. It would mark BSU’s third Mountain West division championship in four years. The Broncos last won the conference outright in 2014.

2. Falcons fury. Since joining the Mountain West in 2011, Boise State has lost only 10 conference games, but three of those losses have been suffered consecutively in games against Air Force. The Falcons have won the last three matchups by a 9.3-point average margin of victory. Even as heavy favorites this Saturday, Boise State must stay disciplined in defending the Falcons’ triple-option attack to end the skid.

3. Bowl hopes. Through Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun’s previous 10 seasons at the helm, the academy has failed to reach a bowl game only once (2013). The Falcons are in danger of missing a second this fall with two must-win games to reach six victories on the year — at Boise State and vs. Utah State. No small task during an up-and-down season for the Falcons.
