3-year-old boy dies of injuries from Lakewood chain-reaction crash that killed his mother

The crash happened at 7:17 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2017, when a man drove his black pickup truck into the rear of a car stopped at the westbound traffic light on West Alameda Avenue at Oak Street.

Lakewood police say a 3-year-old boy has died following a six-car crash on Monday that already claimed the life of his 43-year-old mother.

Jason Huffman died Wednesday of injuries sustained in the rush hour chain-reaction crash on westbound Alameda Avenue at Oak Street, according to a Thursday news release by Steve Davis, Lakewood police spokesman.

The boy’s mother, 43-year-old Anna Huffman of Lakewood, was pronounced dead  shortly after the 7:15 a.m. crash.

Lakewood police traffic detectives continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

behind four other vehicles at a red light when a 45-year-old man driving a black pickup plowed into the rear of her van. All the vehicles in front of Huffman’s van were struck in succession.

The man, who has not been identified, was treated at a hospital and released. Jason Huffman was taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, where he was treated for three days.

“The investigation will continue in an effort to determine the exact cause of the accident. Although there was no apparent indication of drugs or alcohol being involved, investigators must await test results before making a final determination on any related charges,” Davis said.
