Colorado ski resorts were basking Monday morning in a Christmas Day powder day that comes during a snowy stretch which has allowed them to open more terrain following a long dry spell.

“It’s a white Christmas morning in Vail!” the resort, which got seven inches of snow overnight Sunday, tweeted.

More snow is expected in the mountains before a storm system that is forecast to drop up to a foot or more moves out late Monday.

Paired with snowfall on Saturday, ski areas across the state have been celebrating.

Resorts in the state’s northern mountains have fared best. (Here is a more detailed look at Colorado ski resort snow conditions.)
