Re: “Republicans’ attempt to release Nunes memo is unconstitutional,” Feb. 1 letter to the editor.
Although former Congressman David E. Skaggs is certainly correct in his view of constitutional violations by the legislative branch of government in regards to the release of the Nunes memo, one wonders whether House Speaker Paul Ryan or President Donald Trump or any number of their congressional lackeys give a damn about the Constitution. Trump, by refusing to exercise his right to block the illegal release of the politically motivated memo, endangers national security; Congress goes along. Yet, in another case, Trump refuses to abide by a 25-year-old act of Congress and continues to illegally block release of half-century-old files relating to the assassination of John Kennedy; Congress fails to react.
Congress no longer is a separate branch of government, but exists only to grant The Presidential Wish, however illegal or dangerous it may be. We are no longer on the brink of a constitutional crisis, we are over the edge.

I would like to express my disgust with the smear tactics being used by Congress to demean the FBI and Justice Department. I also believe Rep. Devin Nunes should be fully taken off the House Intelligence Committee. At this time his interference has become inappropriate.
I urge Congressman Mike Coffman and Sens. Cory Gardner and Michael Bennet to stand up for what is right. Stand against the unethical behavior that is ongoing daily on several fronts.
Without standing up for what is right, our members of Congress are destroying the Republican Party, the Constitution and the reputation of the United States. Why don’t they see this and do or say something? This has gone too far and for too long.

I finally have to write in response to the news of Donald Trump’s most recent departure from all that is decent and honorable in the world. It isn’t enough to reject every civil and moral precept, but this “president” has found ways to demean every institution Americans hold dear. Openly depicting his “grabbing” women by their genitals, then saying what we saw was not so, and gleefully and deliberately sabotaging every federal agency he can get his hands on by appointing individuals who have nothing but disregard for them, and debasing the presidency itself. This was not enough. Now, Trump is willing to throw the FBI, the CIA, and all of the U.S. intelligence services to the whims of his narcissism. Where is any Republican spine? Once, we had principled disagreement. Gone.
