
Here’s a list of notable performances in Class 5A and Class 4A boys/girls basketball for the week culminating on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Class 5A Boys
No. 3 ThunderRidge 56, No. 1 Chaparral 51 on Tuesday: Senior point guard Tyson Cruickshank led all scorers with 18 points while senior guard Justin McCaw added 17 more as the Grizzlies (20-1) topped the Wolverines (17-4) to take control of the Continental League race.
Far Northeast 66, Thomas Jefferson 56 on Thursday: The Warriors (13-8) bested the 4A Trojans (12-9) in Denver Prep League action at home behind 15 points apiece from senior forward Malik Fofana and junior shooting guard Myron Hamilton.
Class 4A Boys
No. 1 Longmont 49, No. 9 Silver Creek 37 on Thursday: The Trojans (19-1) cemented the Northern League crown after going .500 in the conference last season, while the Raptors (17-4) were bolstered by 10 points from junior Nick Eaton in the loss.
No. 3 Pueblo South 76, No. 7 Pueblo West 54 on Friday: Junior Julian Lucero and senior Nieyeme Smeyer-Williams turned in solid performances for the Cyclones (15-6), but it wasn’t near enough to overcome a total team effort by the Colts (19-2).
Class 5A Girls
Doherty 57, Rampart 41 on Thursday: Senior foward Mykiaa Minniss led the way for the Spartans (19-3) with 16 points in addition to eight rebounds, while junior guard Brionna McBride also scored in double digits against the Rams (8-13).
Dakota Ridge 52, No. 4 Ralston Valley 44 on Friday: In a Jeffco League upset, the Eagles (13-8) were paced by 11 points from senior Skylar Lodice and 10 from sophomore Emily Doolittle to defeat the injury-affected Mustangs (17-4) in Littleton.
Class 4A Girls
No. 9 D’Evelyn 53, No. 5 Valor Christian 49 on Wednesday: With the defeat of the Eagles (16-5), senior guard Bailey Marvel, junior guard Kylee Fridgen and the Jaguars (15-6) again proved they’ll be dangerous come state tournament time.
No. 1 Pueblo West 59, Pueblo South 45 on Friday: Coach Gil Lucero and the Cyclones (20-1) locked up the South Central League title against their city rivals, while forward Gabi Lucero was unstoppable with 20 points for the Colts (12-9).
