Mikaela Shiffrin said she didn’t want a repeat performance of her fifth-place finish in the giant slalom at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

She sure didn’t have one. Shiffrin, who entered the second run in second place, took the gold medal on Thursday, finishing with a time of 1:09.20, giving her a combined time of 2:20.02 — a 0.39 second lead over silver medalist Ragnhild Mowinckel.
