A 20-year-old woman and a 5-year-old child are dead and two other people were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Weld County Friday morning.

The crash happened west of Hudson on Colorado 52 near Weld County Road 41, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gary Cutler said. The highway is shut down, Cutler said, and will be for the next few hours while police continue to investigate.

The 20-year-old female was the driver in the first car, Cutler said. She had two child passengers — one of them a 5-year-old who state troopers performed CPR on. Both children were taken to the hospital where the 5-year-old died.

The second driver was ejected from his vehicle and is now receiving medical attention. Cutler didn’t know the extent of his injuries.

The people inside the third and fourth vehicles escaped injuries.

“Those drivers are OK,” Cutler said. “They’re just shaken up.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation, although Cutler said there was heavy fog in the area.
