Alta Ski Area is one of the 16 resorts included in the Mountain Collective pass, which added Big Sky in Montana for the 2018-19 season.

Rumors of the demise of the have been greatly exaggerated.

In fact, the league of independent resorts — offering two days at each of 16 resorts for $409 — is growing, adding Montana’s Big Sky to the group.

Several of the Mountain Collective allied resorts are part of the Ikon Pass, a new rival to Vail Resorts’ prominent Epic Pass. While the emergence of the Ikon Pass has eliminated the Rocky Mountain SuperPass, the Mountain Collective will continue.

With the addition of Big Sky, the Mountain Collective grows its resort roster to 16, up from 12 for 2016-17.

The collective of independent resorts includes Utah’s Alta, Snowbird and Snowbasin, Aspen Snowmass, Wyoming’s Jackson Hole, California’s Mammoth and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Vermontap Sugarbush, Idaho’s Sun Valley, New Mexico’s Taos, Australia’s Thredbo, Canada’s Lake Louise, Banff Sunshine and Revelstoke, and Coronet Peak and The Remarkables in New Zealand. The Mountain Collective Pass, which resort operators say is popular with urban millennials, offers two days at each the 16 resorts, with one bonus day at any one of the destinations and additional days at resorts in Chile, Japan and France.

New for 2018-19, the pass splits Alta and Snowbird as well as Banff Sunshine and Lake Louise, with two days at each of the four resorts. The pass also offers 50 percent off tickets at each destination. Mountain Collective passes for kids 12 and younger cost $1 when purchased with an adult pass.
