Do women who accuse politicians of sexual harassment ever ask: How would it feel to be Mayor Michael Hancock’s wife? Or one of his siblings? Or a member of Steve Lebsock’s family?
Probably the greatest punishment for the offender is not getting kicked out of office, but surviving fallout from family humiliation.
Even if a wife knew that her husband was prone to “inappropriate behavior,” public exposure affects her, too. Collateral victims suffer doubt, anger and shame. Put on the spot, they ask: Should I stand by my man, like Hillary Clinton? Or, like Melania Trump, deplore Donald’s grabbing, but say, “This is not the man I know”? Huma Abedin concluded, “This man will be the death of me,” then divorced Anthony Weiner. Most agonize silently, like the accusers.
So before you come forward, and you should, say a little prayer for those sisters, too.
