Adelitas has become a popular spot on South Broadway over the past five years (along with inhouse sister spaces Palenque and Chupaflor), and it’s celebrating its birthday on Sunday with a bang.
Starting at noon, guests can enjoy $5 drink specials, $5 Mexican-style barbecue, including beef brisket torta sliders and elote (corn on the cob, south-of-the-border style), and free tequila and mezcal tastings from a who’s who of tequila royalty. A mariachi band will begin at 1 p.m.
Among the guests will be tequila masters from Fortaleza and Altos brands, as well as Tomas Estes, the European ambassador of tequila.
“Some of the best-known tequila and mezcal makers in Mexico are coming to Denver just for this event,” said Tony White, one of Palenque’s lead bartenders (and a mezcal aficionado). “The owner, Brian Rossi, has such a close connection with them that when he asked them to come and celebrate our anniversary, they’re here!”
The group’s regular offerings will still be on the menu — like the molcajete and unique Michoacan-style ice cream — but they’ll also be offering off-menu items.
